I learned a lot about using colors in painting and drawing. I've never explored color as much as I have this year. With the abstract expressionism painting we did, I worked with an uncomfortably diverse palette, and in my final figure drawing I surprisingly used color theory. I'm not finished my oil painting but it has been a learning experience to try to deal with such a large variation of values.
I definitely improved the most in painting and sculpture. I have never really painted or sculpted seriously before. The home project for sculpture was challenging as we had to work with minimal time and materials, and the lack of resources taught me to improvise with what I had. In terms of painting, it's been a good experience to just jump in and try a medium that I've avoided up until now. I need to improve more in the use of color in my work. Since I like working with pen and ink so much, watercolor washes are a good option for me. I'll try to expand my painting skills, but I don't think I want to really invest as much into sculpture. As I move forward I'll utilize the more diverse set of skills I've garnered. I'll hopefully make my work more varied. My figure drawings have improved over the year and I'll probably be doing more of them as I continue in art. Hopefully I'll also get more experienced and fluent in painting. It's been a good year.
