One article describes the drastic change brought about by the Armory Show, and the other article describes a newly named art movement called Neurotic Realism. The two situations parallel each other; they both show how drastic changes in the art world can happen.
What's really interesting is that how every generation of art movement decidedly feels like its the last. Everyone infatuated with romanticism and idealism didn't feel like their reign was going to end. Nobody ever thought cubism and abstract expressionism would be able to displace other so-called -isms. That's the most poignant point that emanates from these articles. Artistic movements always come and go if there's a defined and established artistic society. The art society will most often reflect how the general society changes, and therefore in any society where there is free transmission of thought and idea, then there will most likely be change. This change is reflected in the art of the society.

Ich gebe Euch eine Verfassung- Raphaela Vogel
http://www.contemporaryartdaily.com/2016/02/raphaela-vogel-at-bq/#more-176245 This multimedia piece demonstrates the increasingly growing methods and mediums that artists can use to send a message. This piece combines sculpture and video filmed by a drone to ask questions of the artist's relation to the viewer and the gender ratio in society and professions. I think that one of the coolest things as technology progresses is how art progresses with it. The pencil, a small innovation, drastically revolutionized art and its accessibility in society, and now we have huge technological advancements that can all be applied to artistic creations. Hopefully we can see multimedia and unconventional art flourishing more as time passes. http://www.saatchiart.com/paintings/modern This is the painting collection of the Saatchi gallery, the very same gallery that hosted the neurotic realism exhibition years ago. Many of these paintings are derived upon established styles of art such as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, or Surrealism. However, while this may seem like a lack of diversity or innovation in painting, art is never static or unchanging. Each of these paintings, even though they are not by Picasso, Van Gogh, or Monet, show an individual contributing some skill and effort to the overarching flow of artwork in the world. Each of these paintings is unique and individual even if they echo earlier techniques or art movements. This gallery revealed the unfathomable possibilities that art really offers. I recently visited the VMFA and looked at the beautiful 'Nightfall' exhibition. Composed of prints exploring luminosity, the exhibition shows the different approaches artists use to represent light. The art of printmaking utilizes perhaps abnormal techniques in the lighting of scenes and figures. Traditional shading techniques are recognized such as crosshatching and stippling, but oftentimes they have to be done in reverse, with the stipples and hatching carved into the print block to illuminate rather than to shadow. I especially appreciated seeing artwork done in a medium that I have little to no experience with. I think I might take up prints and printmaking later because of the unique atmosphere that they provide.
